How to Spot a Reputable Puppy Seller in the UAE: A Buyer's Red-Flag Checklist

How to Spot a Reputable Puppy Seller in the UAE: A Buyer's Red-Flag Checklist

The UAE's demand for puppies has created a booming market — and unfortunately, not every seller has your future dog's welfare at heart. From unregulated backyard breeders to online scammers who disappear after taking a deposit, buyers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and across the Emirates need to know exactly what to look for before handing over their money. This guide walks you through the warning signs of an untrustworthy seller and what a responsible one should actually offer.

Why This Matters More in the UAE

Because the UAE imports a large share of its purebred puppies and has a fast-moving resale market on social media groups, buyers often can't visit a traditional "home kennel" the way they might in other countries. This makes it easier for unscrupulous sellers to hide poor breeding conditions, falsify paperwork, or sell sick puppies that were rushed through import without proper quarantine or vet checks.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • No physical address or showroom: Sellers who only operate through WhatsApp and refuse to let you see the puppy in person before payment.
  • Pressure to pay a deposit immediately: Urgency tactics like "another buyer is interested" are a classic scam pattern.
  • Vague or missing health documentation: No vaccination card, no deworming record, or documents that look copied/templated for every puppy.
  • Puppies younger than 8 weeks: Responsible breeders never release puppies before 8 weeks of age — earlier separation harms physical and behavioral development.
  • Unusually low prices for "purebred" dogs: If a Golden Retriever or French Bulldog is priced far below market rate, ask why — it may indicate an unregistered backyard breeding operation or a mixed-breed mislabeled as purebred.
  • No microchip or import paperwork for foreign-bred puppies: Legitimate imports must clear UAE customs with proper veterinary and transport documentation.
  • Reluctance to show the puppy's living conditions or parents: Ethical sellers are proud to show where puppies are raised.
  • Only accepting cash with no receipt or contract: A reputable seller provides a sales agreement outlining health guarantees and return policy.

What a Trustworthy Seller Should Provide

  • A vaccination and deworming schedule signed by a licensed veterinarian.
  • Clear information on the puppy's breed, age, microchip number,
